The State turned 80 years young Dec. 25, 2014, so we’re throwing the old gal a birthday bash and benefit and you’re invited! A secret password (and tickets) will gain you entrée to a speakeasy featuring the sultry songstress Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, The State’s now-famous martini bar, a photo booth, to record your evening for posterity, dancing and complimentary hors d' oeuvres. There will also be Cigarette Girls at your service, vintage newsreels ~ notes on the news of the day when architect S. Charles Lee designed the Art Deco-inspired State Theatre ~ and themed Champagne cocktails to savor at our Blind Pig (another name for speakeasy during Prohibition). Party like it’s 1934 by going glam for the night with pink rouge and pouty lips (think Jean Harlow), highly stylized gowns with shoulder pads, gloves and a hat cocked to the side as was the fashion of the day. Men? Double-breasted coats and fedoras! Speakeasy opens at 6:30; Lavay performs and dancing begins at 8 p.m. Admission: $80 per couple; $40 per individual Contact : State Theatre Phone : BOX OFFICE (209) 527-4697 Email : Web Site : thestate.org
