Relay For Life of Modesto High School
Opening Ceremony: 4:00 pm Our Opening Ceremony brings the whole school together for a fun, high-energy event kickoff that celebrates the lives of those who have battled cancer and reminds us all that while we are winning this battle, fighting cancer is a year-round priority. Survivors Lap: 4:15 pm Cancer survivors are the stars of the event so they get the first lap around the track. Cheered on by other participants and the sound of upbeat music, the Survivors Lap lets all cancer survivors at the event celebrate their victory over cancer. Caregivers Lap: 4:15 pm Being a caregiver to a cancer patient can be difficult, so we make sure caregivers know how much we appreciate them. During the Caregivers Lap, anyone who has cared for someone with cancer walks a special lap so they can be honored. Caregivers walk this lap with the people they helped if they are also present. Luminaria Ceremony: 8:00 pm At the Luminaria Ceremony we remember loved ones lost to cancer, support people who currently have cancer, and honor people who fought cancer in the past. It's a powerful part of the event because it provides an opportunity for people to work through grief and find hope. Fight Back Ceremony: 9:30 pm We must continue to Fight Back against cancer after the Relay event ends. This ceremony helps students, teachers and parents leave the event with information about cancer education, advocacy, and the mission, programs, and services of the American Cancer Society. Closing Ceremony: 9:45 pm The Closing Ceremony celebrates what the school just accomplished together. It's also a time to remember the lives of those lost, and to commit to continuing the fight against this disease over the next year.
