The Evolution of Computing Technologies:
From Following Instructions to Learning
Computer Scientist Katherine Lewis is currently the Division Leader for the Applications, Simulations, and Quality (ASQ) Division in the Computation Associate Directorate and leads technical efforts combining simulations and machine learning. Scientists are entering a new era in computing, and computers are learning in a way similar to the human brain. This talk will describe using supercomputers to solve challenging problems and the evolving technologies of learning systems.

Plus: Hidden Figures (PG-2017) This is the incredible, untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe)-brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit.
