SUMMARY:Lawrence Livermore Lab: Science on Screen
DESCRIPTION:A FREE\, grant-driven\, science education program for teens and adults that pairs prominent LLNL scientists presenting cutting-edge science with popular Hollywood films (This year's theme is) MARVELOUS MACHINES\n\n Get extra class credits for attending!\n\n Attend and receive LLNL sway\n\n $500 to the classroom with the most students in attendance over four programs.\n\n \n\n NEW Talk To A Scientist ~ an opportunity to meet and chat with the scientist following their presentation!\n\n \n\n \n\n The Evolution of Computing Technologies:\n\n From Following Instructions to Learning\n\n Computer Scientist Katherine Lewis is currently the Division Leader for the Applications\, Simulations\, and Quality (ASQ) Division in the Computation Associate Directorate and leads technical efforts combining simulations and machine learning. Scientists are entering a new era in computing\, and computers are learning in a way similar to the human brain. This talk will describe using supercomputers to solve challenging problems and the evolving technologies of learning systems.\n\n \n\n Plus: Hidden Figures (PG-2017) This is the incredible\, untold story of Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson)\, Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Mon e)-brilliant African-American women working at NASA\, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit.\n\n \n\n Doors at 2\; presentation at 2:30\; talk with scientist at 3:15\; film at 3:30 p.m.\n \n \n Contact : \n State Theatre\n \n \n Phone : \n BOX OFFICE (209) 527-4697\n \n \n Email : \n \n \n \n Web Site : \n www.thestate.org
