The Modesto Junior College Friends of Music concert series is offering a Faculty Recital on Friday, February 23, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall on East Campus, 435 College Avenue in Modesto. The concert is a benefit for MJC music student scholarships. The recital program opens with a performance by organist, Steven Grubb. Faculty members David Chapman, Michael Silva and Travis Silvers, and MJC graduate Mark Davila then play a guitar quartet by Carlo Domeniconi. Professor Chapman is also performing “Three Spanish Pieces” by Emilio Pujol. David Dow’s performance of his original work “Vortex” on wind controller also features video and a soundtrack. Faculty members Anne Martin, viola, and Robert Scott, clarinet, join six guest performers in playing Franz Schubert’s “Octet in F major, D. 803.” Professors Dow, piano, Anne Martin, violin, and Erik Maki, electric bass, are winding-up the program with the gypsy piece, “Zsebkendom Negy Sarka.” Tickets are $12 general admission and $10 for students and seniors (62 and better). Tickets are also available at the Music Recital Hall beginning 90 minutes prior to the concert. The community is invited to join the campus for an evening of chamber music for a good cause.
