The Makanaaloha Group has roots dating back to 2004 and is founded by Modesto-Native Rick San Nicolas. This family-run company has a deep commitment to preserving and perpetuating the cultural heritage of the Hawaiian people. The Makanaaloha Group is renowned for producing The George Na’ope Hula Festival, an annual hula competition in Sacramento that celebrates the essence of Hawaiian tradition. Rick San Nicolas, a world-renowned expert in Hawaiian feather work, exemplifies the group’s vision through his dedication to cultural preservation. The ‘Malama Lahaina’ fundraiser holds immense importance for The Makanaaloha Group, as it aligns with their core values of safeguarding and sharing the rich legacy of the Hawaiian culture for generations to come. Amidst the event’s captivating ambiance, Te Mau Tamari’i A Tiare will showcase their authentic Tahitian performance. Guided by Kumu Marlo Caramat, this San Jose-based group embodies the lively essence of Tahitian culture through their dance. Contributing to the event’s diverse cultural experience, Halau Pa’akea Wai Lehua will present their entrancing Hula performance. Recognized as the overall champions at the 14th annual George Na’ope Hula Festival, this ensemble from Kailua, HI, directed by Kumu Wanda Pa’akea Akiu, demonstrates both their exceptional talent and deep respect for the heritage woven into this captivating art form.
