(Blu-ray) In English\nIn this 1950 film noir crime drama\, a well-meaning crack shot husband is pressured by his beautiful marksman wife to go on an interstate robbery spree\, where he finds out just how depraved and deadly she really is. Also known as Deadly Is the Female\, Gun Crazy was directed by Joseph H. Lewis and produced by Frank King and Maurice King\, and features Peggy Cummins and John Dall. The screenplay by blacklisted writer Dalton Trumbo\, credited to Millard Kaufman because of the blacklist\, and by MacKinlay Kantor was based on a short story by Kantor published in 1940 in The Saturday Evening Post. In 1998\, Gun Crazy was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally\, historically\, or aesthetically significant.” The founder and president of the Film Noir Foundation\, Eddie Muller\, a writer based in San Francisco\, and the author of “Gun Crazy: The Origin of American Outlaw Cinema” (2014)\, will be on hand to discuss the film. Muller is considered a noir expert and is the co-programmer of the San Francisco Noir City Film Festival as well as noir festivals in Austin\, Chicago and Portland.\nThis screening is being offered at no charge to Modesto Film Society members as a bonus thanking them for their ongoing support of classic films.
